Google Adwords help – and a cartoon that’s too rude to post?

Regular readers know that in the last few months we’ve taken to including cartoons in our newsletter – we use Mike Flanagan of Flantoons and he’s fab :)

This month our newsletter will focus on Google Adwords help, and our September special offer, which is a Google Adwords Healthcheck for just £40.

One of the things that we find a lot of when doing these healthchecks is that people are often getting thousnds of clicks on their ads per month, but no sales from their site. Obviously this could be for a number of reasons, but one of the reasons we come across a lot is that thy simply haven’t thought their keyphrases through properly, and haven’t made sure that they’re not getting clicks that were meant for some other product or service.

It’s happened in 2 forums I’m a part of, and I’ve seen a few people Tweeting about it – the dreaded PageRank argument has raised it’s head again.

Before we talk about whether it matters, for those of you not so sure, here’s the Wikipedia definition of PageRank:

PageRank is a link analysis algorithm, named after Larry Page, used by the Google Internet search engine that assigns a numerical weighting to each element of a hyperlinked set of documents, such as the World Wide Web, with the purpose of “measuring” its relative importance within the set. The algorithm may be applied to any collection of entities with reciprocal quotations and references. The numerical weight that it assigns to any given element E is also called the PageRank of E and denoted by PR(E).

Google Wants To See You Naked” Covers most of what we already know, but it is quite amusing and always bears repeating.

The basics are:

1. Provide fresh, new content on your site so that other sites link back to it

2. Match your website’s blog headlines with the keyword phrases that people are searching on

3. Write articles for other sites that have links pointing back to your site

4. Distribute press releases that include links to the content on your site
