I bang on time and time again about adding content to your site – real, relevant content that will deliver value for your visitors and benefit from the search engines.
Clients say to me all the time: “But Nikki, we have nothing to add – what can we possibly write about and add to the site? Everything we do is right there!”
And I can guarantee that within 5 minutes I have thought of 5 or 6 things they could add to their site to increase their content, visibility, and ‘sticky’ factor (the amount of time people spend on their website)

It’s all too easy to write content JUST aimed at Google and other search engines.
There you are, filling in keyphrase after keyphrase, linking away and everything is going swimmingly
But is it?
Who are you actually writing this content and copy FOR?
Yes, I know you want good google listings, yes I know you want Yahoo to like you – but to what end?
If you’re like most people, the end aim is to get customers to your site that will then either buy from you or pick up the phone / email / enquire.

Why not go one step further and ask your testimonial givers to record an audio or video file you could put on your website?
I’m not a great fan of video on websites, but a testimonial here and there (that doesn’t play automatically) could do wonders.
Seeing a testimonial in writing is great, hearing a customer say how good you are is one step further and actually seeing that customer saying the words is one step beyond (as Madness would say)
A simple audio file can be recorded on most PCs or laptops, and a video file could be done with a webcam or one of the many web video companies out there.

Have you done a great job?
Are you offering a great and effective service?
Has a customer told you how fab you are?
Then put it on your website!
Testimonials are a great way to let people see that you can walk the talk – if your customers are willing to say you are great, then that’s very reassuring for a potential client.
You could have a dedicated testimonial page or scatter testimonials throughout the site – either way works, and works well.

Once your site gets past about 100 pages, Google and other engines tend to take more notice of it.
It’s almost as if they go “Oooh NOW it must be important!”
How to reach the magic 100?
- articles
- newsletter archives
- user generated pages
- special offers
However you do it, make sure that the content is unique and the pages stand on their own merits.
100 pages plus? You’ll be spidered more often too…
